South Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage

Students in Señora Barker’s class kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a tasty cactus salsa and a variety of fun-flavored Jarritos sodas. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 through October 15. The observance begins on September 15 to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on September 16, and students in Señora Barker’s class marked the occasion by watching a video clip of President Claudia Sheinbaum participating in the traditional bell-ringing ceremony that signals the start of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations. Through these activities, students not only enjoyed the flavors of Hispanic culture but also learned about the rich history and traditions that Hispanic Heritage Month honors.
