Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a yearly observance in the United States from September 15th to October 15th, aimed at honoring and celebrating the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of American citizens with ancestry from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

This celebration originated as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 and was later extended to a month-long event by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. The chosen dates are meaningful as they coincide with the independence celebrations of several Latin American nations. Students in Señora Barker’s classes learned about the tradition and then celebrated on Monday, September 15th , with a cactus salsa prepared by Sra. Barker and Jarritos sodas. ¡Feliz Mes de Herencia Hispana!

On Monday, September 15, in Mrs. Barker's Spanish class, students had an opportunity to taste traditional food and beverages during class.
