Summertime Food Assistance

Summertime Food Assistance

Several resources are available to help every Avon family ensure there is plenty of nutritious food on-hand to help make this the best summer ever.

Mary Lee Maier Community Pantry

Avon's own Mary Lee Maier Community Pantry continues weekly operations through the summer. The pantry is open every Thursday (except July 4) from 5:00-6:00 pm at Avon Intermediate School East. Visit the pantry webpage to learn more.

Hendricks County Health Partnership

The HCHP maintains a list of hundreds of local resources including food pantries. Visit to access the full guide. Or, click here to jump directly to food and nutrition resources.

Summer Meal Sites

USDA meal programs for children operate all summer. To find the nearest summer meal site, call 211 or text 'Summer Meals' (English) or 'Verano' (Spanish) to (914) 342-7744. Households in need of assistance any time of the year can call the USDA National Hunger Hotline at (866) 3-HUNGRY to speak with a representative who will find resources, food banks, and other nearby services.

SUN Bucks

Families of students who qualify for free and reduced school meals will receive SUN Bucks cards. Distribution has begun and will occur in waves. If your household does not receive all expected cards by Friday, June 28, you can contact the SUN Bucks helpline at (317) 234-4528. Pease do not call before June 28 as they will be unable to assist you. For issues with card activation or creation of a pin, please contact the phone number on the back of the card. To learn more, visit the Indiana Department of Education website

Have a safe, wonderful summer.
